Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures expiring in September fell 0.1 percent to 1,180.6.
Covidien Plc (COV) rose 0.4 percent to $49.92. The maker of surgical accessories and operating room products said sales in 2012 will increase by as much as 5 percent from 2011.
Dendreon Corp. (DNDN) added 2 percent to $11.10. The Seattle-based maker of the prostate-cancer drug Provenge said it cut 500 jobs and sees $21 million in restructuring costs.
